CEI Study Visit 2026-II: Building Europe's innovation capacity through lifelong learning The Community for Educational Innovation (CEI) invites motivated professionals to apply for the next CEI Study Visit, taking place on 3-4 November 2026 in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, hosted by Polytechnic University of Viana do Castelo.

CEI is a community of practice created by the Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission (DG EAC). It brings together educators, researchers, administrative leaders and representatives from industry, the public sector and civil society. It aims to unite higher education institutions, vocational education and training providers, educators at all levels, businesses and policymakers to advance educational innovation and equip learners with the skills and mindsets needed to navigate and contribute to Europe’s innovation landscape. If you are not yet a member of CEI, you can join us here.
Lifelong learning is central to Europe's capacity to respond to change. It supports Europe’s innovation and competitiveness by helping people develop future-oriented skills and adapt to technological and labour-market change. Skills needs are shifting, shortages persist across sectors, and participation in adult learning remains uneven. Responding to this means building learning that people can enter, re-enter and combine with work across a whole career, through the recognition of prior learning, micro-credentials, modular and open provision and closer cooperation with employers.

This study visit is built around the experience and knowledge that participants bring. Fifteen researchers, educators and higher education professionals from across Europe will share the initiatives they have developed, discuss what has worked in their contexts, and reflect on the challenges they are continuing to address. Through peer exchange and collective discussion, participants will have the opportunity to test ideas, gain new perspectives and learn from colleagues working in different contexts and systems. Come join us!
